FAQ's
I've never played or seen Water Polo be played before, could I really be on the team?
Absolutely! The vast majority of kids that play Water Polo in Salem have never played before starting high school. If you have ever been involved in swim team, soccer, baseball, soft ball, or basketball, you already have a leg up. Even if you've never played any of these sports, we bet you'll still be surprised by how quickly you can pick up Water Polo.
What if I'm not a strong swimmer?
We have all levels of swimmers, especially at the beginning of the season. This is a great place to learn, and after the first couple of weeks of practice, most kids experience a big boost in their confidence and strength in the pool. Looking back on the Water polo season, it's very common to hear kids say, "that was the best shape I've ever been."
"The only reason I'd sign up for Water Polo, is to get in shape for…" (Insert winter or spring term sport)
That's great! Water Polo will indeed build muscle strength and endurance. It's a great way to get ready for sports later in the year! We love multi-sport athletes and look forward to having fun and converting you to a Water Polo team member in your off season.
Where are practices and matches held?
All practices will be held at Illahe pool, in Salem, Oregon. Matches will be held at the home pool, as well as other locations in Oregon. Visit the list of pool locations to the left, where we have had matches before!
I see that you're a Sprague sport. What does that mean?
Water Polo (along with lacrosse and racquetball) are none sanctioned, or in the club sports categories within the Oregon School Activities Association. As a result, it does NOT receive school district funding. We do a couple fundraising activities during the season to keep the cost down.
